Creating a holiday entreé can feel like a lot of pressure. You want to achieve amazing flavor that will satisfy all of your guests without slaving away in the kitchen all day. This slow-cooked ham is the way to go!
Start by finding a ham that has already been brined, smoked and sliced. Then all that’s left to do is add the glaze! Just be sure to look for a ham without excess salt, artificial smoke flavor, and, of course, no nitrates or preservatives. Pure maple syrup adds plenty of sweet flavor that complements the smokiness of ham. Apple cider vinegar, rich in probiotics and minerals, adds tang and acid to cut through the rich, savory flavors. You can also throw in a few herbs like rosemary or 3-4 garlic cloves right into your slow cooker to add even more flavor.
Start by removing the ham from packaging and discard any flavor packet that may have come with it (this recipe will be so much better!). To make the glaze, combine maple syrup and apple cider vinegar in a measuring cup and whisk together. Place ham in slow cooker and pour glaze over ham. Cover and cook for 4 hours on low, until the internal temperature reaches 140°F. Halfway through cooking, baste the juices from the bottom over the top of the ham and in between slices. Carefully remove the ham from slow cooker and slice around the bone. Serve hot.
