Smooth your skin and remove impurities with this revitalizing activated charcoal mask.
The fine grain of charcoal combines with coconut oil and baking soda for a gentle and effective exfoliant. This homemade facial mask also tightens pores while helping lift dirt and blackheads.
Activated charcoal is a special healing substance touted for its ability to remove toxins; it detoxes the skin of impurities. To moisturize the skin, coconut oil fatty acids naturally leave your skin feeling dewy and smooth. Plus, because of its antimicrobial properties, coconut oil also helps fight off the bacteria that causes acne.

Other great topical uses for coconut oil:
- Mix with sea salt or coconut sugar for body and face scrubs.
- Create a moisturizing detox bath by adding 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and ½ cup epsom salt to bath water.
- Add coconut oil to homemade body butter for an ultra-moisturizing lotion.
Finally, a small amount of baking soda is added to the mask for cleansing and exfoliation. Tip: Because baking soda can be harsh on sensitive skin, test the mask on a small area of your body first.
To make the charcoal face mask, simply mix the melted coconut oil, activated charcoal and baking soda together in a small jar. Use your fingertips or a flat brush to paint the mask onto your face, and then let it sit for 20 minutes before washing your face clean.
