Heal dry, cracked hands with this homemade hand cream made with just three natural ingredients.
This nourishing hand cream contains none of the artificial dyes, perfumes, or preservatives found in commercial products, yet is still strong enough to moisturize dry skin. Made with vitamin-rich shea butter and jojoba oil, it’s the perfect cream to have handy during cooler months.
Jojoba oil is often used to relieve skin ailments, while also combating redness, aging skin, and infections. As a carrier oil, it dilutes the potency of essential oils to safely apply to skin.

Added shea butter leaves your hands feeling soft and smooth. When combined with jojoba oil, it offers an intensive treatment for chapped hands. As an added bonus, you can also apply to the heels of your feet to smooth out any roughness.
While this recipe uses lavender oil for a soothing scent, you can experiment with other essential oils like peppermint or orange oil. Just be sure you pick a reputable, organic brand. Note: When using new essential oils, it’s always a good idea to perform a patch test first. Simply add 1-2 drops of the essential oil with half a teaspoon of jojoba oil on the forearm and wait 24 hours to see if a reaction occurs. If not, you’re clear to use the essential oil.
To get started, melt the shea butter in a double-boiler over medium heat for about seven minutes. Once it liquifies, transfer the bowl to the refrigerator and let it cool for fifteen minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the shea butter turns opaque in color.
Next, remove from the fridge and whisk the shea butter vigorously for five minutes. When the texture becomes thick and fluffy, add in the jojoba oil and essential oil. Continue stirring until thoroughly combined, then transfer to a six-ounce jar.
When ready to apply, simply scoop out a half teaspoon of cream and massage it into your hands or heels of your feet. For best results, apply before bed every night and store in a dry cool spot. Note: The shea within the cream will continue to solidify at room temperature, but will melt once it makes contact with skin.
