After suffering multiple miscarriages and being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, infertility, diabetes, and constant weight fluctuations, Jessica knew she had to make drastic changes in her life.
She had gone to countless doctors, tried all kinds of weight loss supplements and trends, but had no positive outcome. Finally she went Paleo just 9 months ago and has lost 50lbs so far! Today she shares her inspiring story with us.
1. Tell us your Paleo story.
My weight has always fluctuated here and there, but after multiple miscarriages and being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, infertility, then diabetes, I knew something had to be done.
I was tired all the time, headaches, always feeling so sluggish, and depressed. My husband and I spent hundreds of dollars on doctor visits and medications. At one point I was on multiple medications, weight-loss pills, weight-loss shakes, fad diets, anything to lose weight, I was getting absolutely no where, only more broke and more irritated. The doctors wanted to continue to pump me full of more medications, more shots, more hormone more tests, etc. (which meant MORE money). As my weight sky rocketed my self-esteem plummeted.
In 2011 on my wedding day I was at my highest weight- 227lbs- (Im only 4’11)- I ate whatever, didn’t exercise, got winded just walking up 12 steps. I was constantly being asked by complete strangers “Are you pregnant? When are you due?”- Because of the massive stomach I was toting around. (People who suffer from PCOS carry 80% of their weight in their stomach and lower regions).
After years of battling my weight, which i still battle with, I decided to go primal. I would say I am currently 20/80 Paleo. And now I am almost 9 months into my journey and down almost 50lbs. I have such a long way to go. I am no longer on any medications and I am learning to heal myself through REAL food and exercise. I am seeing my body align itself naturally through proper diet (diet as in eating lifestyle not “oh I need to lose a few pounds”) and exercise. I’m learning daily that its not about depriving my self of yummy things, I LOVE food but I love the right foods. 🙂
2. How long have you been Paleo?
9 months.
3. Why did you start? What did you want to change?
i was wanting to change how I felt. I was tired all the time, no female cycle in 6 years and I was looking through my wedding photos and I was like “I cant believe Ive let myself get out of control!”
4. Was it hard to incorporate into your lifestyle?
Sometimes I have to push myself to exercise, but I went from walking for 15 minutes to walking almost 5 miles a day.
5. Give us an example of a typical day.
I get up and ALWAYS start with breakfast, then before I do anything else, I go walking, if I dont do it when I get up, chances are the business of the day will stop me from doing it later. I eat 6 times a day….3 meals 3 snacks. 🙂 I also have starting incorporating weights as well.
6. What are the biggest changes you’ve experienced?
Mood, energy, weightloss, changes in skin, etc. I dont break out as bad under my chin- hormone cause. my body is being to slowly align itself. My mood is better, a boost in my energy and I am losing weight and inches.
7. How has this changed your outlook on life?
I am a pretty positive person, so I wouldn’t say its “CHANGED MY OUTLOOK” I would say its added to it 🙂 in a positive way.
8. What words of encouragement do you have for the Paleo community?
Don’t give up, don’t try to force yourself to do it all the way at first, baby steps…..become huge steps and then a run ;)—–be patient with yourself and listen to your body.
