Maple syrup, cinnamon and pecans elevate these buttery mashed sweet potatoes to the next level.
If you’re looking for the perfect sweet side dish to accompany all of your festive holiday recipes, this mashed sweet potato recipe is it. Chock full of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants, this dish trumps plain mashed potatoes any day.
Sweet potato holiday dishes are often laden with refined sugar and marshmallows come the holiday season. Using just a tad of pure maple syrup adds seasonal flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Ghee adds mouthwatering buttery moisture to the potatoes, and pecans add an irresistible crunch. We added cinnamon to amp up the holiday flavor, but nutmeg or even a pinch of ground clove would be equally yummy!

If you prefer a smoother mashed potato, start by peeling the sweet potatoes completely. Although, I like to leave a bit of the skins on for added texture and fiber. Next, bring a pot of water to a boil, add the sweet potatoes and boil until soft.
Strain the potatoes and mash them in a large mixing bowl using a fork or potato masher. Stir in the ghee, cinnamon, maple syrup and pecans. Pour into an oven safe casserole dish, top with more pecans and bake for 10 minutes. Roasting at a high temperature gives the pecans a chance to toast and deepen their flavor.
Serve these mashed sweet potatoes while hot, and drizzle with additional maple syrup and ghee if desired.
