What Is a Tisane?
A tisane, pronounced ti-zahn, is a caffeine-free alternative to green or black tea that’s primarily made from steeped herbs. They are referred to as “herbal teas” and are made from a plant other than Camellia sinensis (what all “true” tea comes from). Instead, tisanes are infusions made from spices, roots, seeds, leaves, and bark.

How to Make Tisane Tea
For this version, we use fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, and honey to help detoxify your body naturally. This is especially great if you’re trying to reduce bloat, improve memory, or relieve allergy symptoms.
The honey in this recipe can easily be replaced with equal amounts of maple syrup for an option that’s completely vegan-friendly. If you prefer an unsweetened option, you can also choose to leave out the honey completely.
To get started, combine the mint leaves, lemon slices, and water in a large skillet and bring it to a boil. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the ingredients steep for the next 10 minutes. This will allow the herbs to infuse with the water and meld the flavors together.
When ready, drain the tea through a sieve to remove the mint leaves and lemon slices. Mix in the honey and stir well to dissolve. Divide the sweetened tea evenly between two glass mugs and garnish with extra mint leaves and lemon slices.
