Many women take a long time carefully choosing the right cosmetics to suit their complexion and enhance their looks, but will just grab the first makeup remover they see on the shelf. The type of makeup remover you use on your skin is very important however, as some of the commercially made ones are jam-packed with undesirable ingredients like alcohol, parabens and other chemicals.
If you want to be Paleo on the inside with the food choices you make, you should also choose to be Paleo on the outside with with what you put on your skin. After all, skin is the body’s largest organ! So rather than spending your time scrutinizing labels, you can save time and money making your own makeup remover using natural ingredients that are easy to find.
Jojoba oil is a great place to start. Jojoba is the closest natural ingredient to the sebum found in human skin. The oil dissolves all types of makeup and it is suitable for all skin types. Jojoba oil can cleanse the skin without clogging the pores while soothing and moisturizing the skin. It can even dissolve the excess sebum found in oily skin.
Vitamin E oil is found in most moisturizers and makeup removers as it acts not only as a preservative in keeping the oils from turning rancid quickly, but it is also an antioxidant which can help to protect the skin against damage.
Jojoba Carrot Seed Oil Homemade Makeup Remover
To make a makeup remover with these ingredients, you will need a dark glass dropper bottle, since light can damage and oxidize the mixture.
Fill a dark glass jar full with jojoba oil. If the jojoba oil you are using does not contain vitamin E, wash your hands, then prick a vitamin E capsule with a pin and squeeze the contents into the jojoba oil. Use one capsule for every 2 ounces of jojoba oil. Then add 3 drops of carrot seed essential oil.
Place the lid on and shake well to combine. You can massage this oil onto your face, including around the eyes, and wipe it off with a damp washcloth or cotton pad. It will remove all your makeup, even waterproof mascara, and leave your skin clean and healthy.
Cucumber Milk Homemade Makeup Remover
Another recipe you can try is made with cucumber and grass-fed milk. Simply peel and puree a cucumber then simmer it in whole grass-fed milk for 10 minutes (it’s essential that you use whole milk!). Strain it into an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. This will keep for up to a week. Although milk is not a Paleo-friendly food for consumption, it is very soothing when used externally on the skin.
